Week 1-

This week my teacher was filming for her National Boards. On Monday she showed the children what would be happening on Tuesday when they filmed. She didn't do any teaching just walked them around and showed them what would happen the next day. On Tuesday there was a two hour delay so she decided not to film. This day was also the 100th day of school so we did activities the whole morning I was there. Wednesday she decided to film finally. I was in charge of 3 groups of children. It was exciting to see what all they knew already. Thursday was a two hour delay so again no teaching and there was no teaching on Friday.

Week 2-

This week I got to see her teach! It was neat to see the children know so much that I don't think I knew in Kindergarten. I taught this week for the first time on Thursday. It happened to be my bithday and the children were very good to me :-) minus some behavior issues. Friday my University Supervisor came and watched me teach. The kids were a little better behaved than the previous day but there are still some children I don't know how to control.

Week 3-

This week was supposed to be my first full week of teaching. I was sick all week but pushed through and I am sure it was miserable for the children to listen to me. On Thursday and Friday my teacher decided to do other things than have me do my reading part. It was a little discouraging to be there to teach and not get the opportunity to. Next week is Dr. Seuss week and I am very excited. I have actual things planned to do with the class.

Week 4-

This week was Dr. Suess week and that was all we did. Each day I would read a different Dr. Suess book. The students loved this! I never noticed that Dr. Suess' books were so long. At times it seemed like the students might be getting tired of the book so I would stop asking so many questions and just try to finish it. There were many activities I had planned to do for this week but weren't able to complete them. When I would go to do small group with the students the teacher had stuffed planned and didn't want to do the worksheets I had printed off and made copies of. I had never been in a clinical when Dr. Suess' birthday occurred so never had been able to experience the excitement the children feel. All week my students dressed in different outfits each day to honor the week and on Dr. Suess' birthday they wore hats and ties. It was so cute.

Week 5-

This week I started running a small group by myself and planning what happens during this group time. This week I made a huge breakthrough with Zachary. I have learned that if I tell him he can tell me a story after small group if he listens, he actually does. The first time I tried this, he wasn't sure what to say when I was allowing him to actually talk to me. The quiet didn't last long. Each day he gets excited at the end of the group to tell me what story he has come up with or something that happene to him the night before. I wish that something like this would work with Tabby or Jacob. They don't want to listen when in small groups.

Week 6-

This week was an up and down rollercoaster. The students were good some days and awful the next. The day my supervisor came to visit my teacher was not there. I was in charge of each small group and had to plan everything. I was very nervous about this certain day. That day we sang The Eency Weency Spider and Ants Come Marching. The children loved these two songs. First I sang the songs with the students and then we did them with a CD. In the small group I liked planning the most the children made their own song books. This was so much fun!

Week 7-

I am getting into my own style of teaching. I like that my teacher leaves the room a lot when I am teaching so that I don't feel as if I am being watched. I am getting a little tired of worksheets. There are always 5 groups and 2 of the groups are working on worksheets. It is a struggle each night to find worksheets that are fun but allow for learning and are in connection with what we are learning. The classroom teacher doesn't like to stray away from worksheets. I can't wait until I have my own classroom and can do things as I wish.

Week 8-

Small groups this week were awesome. I downloaded a 30 day trial of SMART notebook onto my personal computer and we played Magic E games during the time they were at my table. It was great to see the students get so excited about learning. This is the type of stuff I want to do in my classroom when I become a teacher. ,The students are really getting the concept of setting. Each child made thier own setting which was exciting. The students made their favorite animals and I am going to make a book for their class library.

Week 9-

This was my last week! I cannot believe that it is over. It seems in some ways that time went by so short but others it dragged on and on. I am going to miss my kids a lot. My last day, Friday, I presented the students with the book they had made. I would ask the students whose picture it was and they were able to tell the class what animals they had drawn and something about their picture. I placed my favorite animal in the front as to not chose favorites and they loved it. One more step to graduation!!
